Previously, I wrote a website review of MAP Protocol, a crypto project that is dedicated to bring a secure and efficient platform for the omnichain. In this article, we will run through the different grant programs the MAP Foundation (the team behind MAP Protocol) is offering.
Grants are very common throughout the crypto space and these come in many different forms or structures. Nevertheless, these are all for providing and improving the ecosystem for the developers, projects, and end users.
Based on the MAP Protocol’s website, there are three grant programs. Each of which have different areas of coverage and different purposes.
Builder Grant
The main focus of MAP Protocol is creating the future of omnichain — a platform for cross-chain transactions with the most secure and interoperable mechanisms and features. From a technical perspective, to achieve this, the tech must be heavily tested and technical innovations and developments must be continuously contributed to the MAP Protocol’s ecosystem.
This is where the Builder Grant program comes into the picture. In this program, the MAP Foundation is giving incentives to selected applicants who will build on MAP Protocol, eventually contributing to the growth of its network and infrastructure. Based on the information published on the website, the grant will differ in size/amount and currency type and will be based on the application. Additionally, MAP tokens can also be rewarded.
Important Details:
- This grant is open to both individuals and team who are builders/developers. They can be established firms/projects, past grantees or past applicants. Those who are totally new to MAP Protocol are also encouraged to apply.
- The grant is open to anyone regardless of demography (age, origin/nationality, identity, and background).
- To be eligible, the applicant’s project must be at any point of the development phase such as idea/concept creation, early stages of development progress, or has already made any significant advancement/progress
- When selected for the grant, the final output of the project should contribute positively to the MAP Protocol ecosystem, especially to its primary scope and key areas such as interoperability between different chains.

Research Grant
Also known as the MAPO Academy, this program primarily aims to fund research about the fields that is relevant for the mission and vision of MAP Protocol. Some of these topics are about cross-chain security, technical differences and comparison between the cross-chain solutions and bridges, among others.
Under the MAPO Academy program, there will be a series of academic programs and workshops to educate more people about the cross-chain technology and zK-technology related subtopics. The MAPO Academy aims to onboard more Web2 users to the more advanced Web3 through educational approach of outreach.
Based on the information posted on the MAP Protocol’s forum, all research are welcome, regardless if it’s a new idea that is related on the given wishlist on the forum post — or a project that further complements any previously completed MAPO-related studies/research.
Important Details:
- The proposals can be submitted in either English, Chinese, or Korean
- The grants will be given on varying basis. Based on the information posted, some criteria selection for being considered to the program are: Potential of long-term involvement in the entire MAP Protocol ecosystem, experience of the research team and quality of previous work, and foreseen impacts of the output of the proposed research scope.
- Whether the structure format of the output, it must be open-source and the public have access to it for reference or source of information. The researchers will still retain their rights to the intellectual property.
The applications for the Round 1 for the MAPO Academic Grant (Q4 2022) had just concluded last December 15th. I recommend to always refer to the forum/website of MAP Protocol for future rounds of the Academy. [UPDATED: Applications for this Round are still welcome!]

Community Grant
The program is officially called MAP Community Contributor Grants Program. This is technically for marketing purposes and for spreading the word about MAP Protocol throughout social media and also in offline/in-person events.
In this program, contributors can create a variety of tasks. The main categories in this program are: Regional Meetup, Twitter/Reddit Thread, Twitter/Instagram Infographic, Tiktok/Instagram Video, YouTube Video, AMA/Podcast, Community Invites, and Blog/Medium/Substack Article.
The rewards given to the contributors/authors will depend on many factors, for example, the quality of the produced work.
Important Details:
- The content is recommended to be in English language, except if it’s a translation task.
- Only original works will be eligible for rewards.
- Contributors must be a holder of $MAP tokens (no specific amount required).
- Content should not in any way promote gambling and trading and should not produce any form of financial advise.
- The content must be available for public viewing and be accessible with a link.

Conclusion
These three programs by MAP Protocol are three great programs as the project ventures through its course in the crypto space. In any crypto project, continuously improving the tech and pushing for its milestones are important for sustainability and effectively reaching all objectives set.
